Robert "Doug" Hartman, CLF®, CLTC, ChFC®
Managing Partner
(913) 661-7201
Doug Hartman grew up in Irving Texas and worked in his family business through school. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a BA in Marketing. Upon graduation he worked in the wholesale sporting goods industry, industrial sales, and advertising. In 2001 the print advertising industry was faced with new technology that forced change. With a wife and a newborn to support, Doug began looking for a new career. He was introduced to the financial services industry by a family member and started with New York Life in Austin Texas in 2002. He joined New York Life to enter into their management training program. He was told if he would follow the process he could become a Managing Partner with New York Life in 10 years or less. His deciding factor to commit to the New York Life was the structure and the objective criteria. He was intrigued by the transparency of the process - the expectations were in writing.
Doug achieved Rookie of the Year in his first year. He went on to enter in the management training program in June 2003. His first year as a young manager was a bust. Everyone he recruited to the business left in six months or less. Not willing to give up or admit total failure he sought mentorship and coaching for insight into leading others. He quickly learned the less you talk about yourself and the more you learn from others the more people you will find that will want to learn from you.
Over the next three years Doug won back to back awards for recruiting and retention. In June 2007, he was promoted to Senior Partner in the Austin General Office. He led the country in recruiting and development the next five years in the West Central Zone and ranked in the top three Senior Partners company-wide all five years. Doug was named Managing Partner of the Shreveport General Office in 2012.
While serving as Managing Partner in the Shreveport General Office, Doug’s team was able to more than double new agent growth and total production. As a result, Doug won “The Reeves Cup”, for recruiting three consecutive years and qualified for New York Life’s Partner Round Table those three years. Doug contributes his success in Shreveport by surrounding himself with a solid team and a good support network throughout the agency.
In March 2017, Doug was asked to serve in the Greater Kansas City General Office. He and his family are extremely excited to be a part of the New York Life Greater Kansas City family. Looking back the vision presented to Doug came true in just under ten years of entering the Management Training Program when he fully committed himself to the industry. In his opinion, the financial services industry is one of the last great business opportunities. It is a business where a person can still create their own success with a little ambition, creativity, support, and drive.
